Descripción: Base of plant ca. 2 m in diameter; leaves or stems ca. 4-5 m tall; flowering stems arising separately, ca. 1 m tall, bright red; calyx and ovary bright red; corollas yellow; mature fruit purple-black; seeds black with orange arils; plants with pungent gingery (not sweet odor).
Altitud: 350 m
Habitat: Wet premontane forest.
Localidad: Luquillo, El Verde Field Station, rte 186 at the Río Sonadora.
